HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL
YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
This
program introduces young people to the process of
independent spiritual exploration. More than just an
opportunity to go bowling and eat pizza, the South
Church Youth Groups are structured around the ideals of
fellowship, worship, and education. These ideals are
expressed in a variety of activities designed to foster
healthy group dynamics, challenge one’s understanding of
faith in relation to personal identity, and provide
opportunities for spiritual growth and reflection in a
relaxed, fun, and non-threatening environment. A
foundation of this program is Christian outreach through
service based mission trips scheduled for the spring and
summer.

MIDDLE
SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP RETREAT
We
will have our annual middle school weekend retreat in
October. Activities may include a canoe trip, hiking and
swimming, and games designed to help us get to know one
another better. Everyone in middle school is urged to
attend as this will be an excellent start to a fun and
exciting year.
CONFIRMATION
Eighth
and ninth grades are a major transitional time for most
young people. It is the first real opportunity for adult
introspection regarding a variety of life decisions.
This is also a special time for young people to consider
the foundations of their faith as they are invited to
participate in South Church’s confirmation program. Over
the course of two years, potential Confirmands are given
an opportunity to explore and deepen their faith as they
engage in meaningful discussion, exploration of their
spirituality, and a variety of challenging and enjoyable
activities. This will be the third year that the
program has been extended to include eight graders, and
I am looking forward to the addition that their
participation will bring to the class. Former high
school Confirmands are also welcome!
Candidates for confirmation and their parents are asked
to come to south church on Wednesday, September 12, from
7:00 to 8:30 pm for an organizational meeting. This
year, special emphasis will be placed on cultivating a
healthy perspective in regard to a variety of cultural
topics, including areas of mind/body identity, the state
of our environment, the reality of miracles, and ways
that we all can act to inspire and cultivate peace in
the world.
At the
end of the program, those who wish to confirm their
Christian faith and their membership in the United
Church of Christ will be given a special opportunity to
do so with the support of the South Church congregation.
