REV. LISA W STEDMAN
INTERIM SENIOR PASTOR

Rev. Stedman began serving South Church on September 3, 2007. She brings a depth of training and experience in Intentional Interim Ministry, having served 5 churches as an interim in the last 9 years. She did her initial training in Interim Ministry with the national Interim Ministry Network, and has since continued studying the art and science of this specialty in many other venues.

Lisa is proud to be from Ohio, and to claim that commonality with South Church's previous Senior Pastor! She graduated from The College of Wooster in northeastern Ohio in 1979 with a degree in philosophy, fully expecting eventually to go to law school. However, several years of active church involvement later, she felt called to enroll at Yale Divinity School, from which she graduated in 1984. In her 23 years of ordained ministry, Lisa has served as settled associate pastor and solo pastor in churches in New Hampshire, as the Director of Faith in Action at City Mission Society in Boston, and in a myriad of other working roles in and outside of the church.

Lisa has been quite involved in the life of the wider church, having served on multiple Association and Conference committees, and a six year term on the national UCC Board for Justice and Witness Ministries. In addition to her love for worship and pastoral care, she is committed to justice-building and peace-making as important facets of her ministry.

She is also deeply committed to her family. She and her partner of 23 years, Johanna Hattendorf, were legally married in 2004, and live in a condo in Danvers with the gracious permission of  their 2 cats who seem to own the place. She is a proud god-mother of Rachel, 22 and Sarah, 19, and is blessed to have strong and loving relationships with her parents, brother, 2 sisters, brother-in-law, and 6 year-old niece, Isabel, as well as the large extended family of her in-laws.

Lisa is very happy to be serving South Church during this important transitional time, as the church moves between settled senior pastors, and envisions its future with hope and joy.

REV. DR. KATHERINE KALLIS
MINISTER of SPIRITUALITY and VOCATION

Rev. Kallis works with adults in a Ministry of Spirituality and Vocation.  She is a life-long learner with graduate degrees from Andover Newton School of Theology and Boston School of Theology.  There she learned (and continues to learn) the connections between the journey outward we are on (in family, community, work and service) and the journey inward (of reflection, prayer and imagination).  In addition to general pastoral ministries, Kate enjoys leading adult groups and retreats.  She also serves as staff representative on the Board of World Service and loves the local and global connections that South Church makes through partnership with numerous groups near and far.  She has a growing interest in peacemaking.

Kate lives in Hingham and Andover.  She has two adult sons, both married, and living in Atlanta, and three granddaughters who live too far from here!

REV. JONATHAN DRURY
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES

Jonathan Drury has been serving as South Church’s full time Youth Ministry Director since August of 2002. Jonathan finished his course work for a Master of Divinity degree at Andover Newton Theological School in the spring of 2004 and will be eligible for a call into full ministry after receiving his ordination in early 2005.  He has a real passion for working with youth, and brings the right mix of personality and charisma to connect and communicate with people of all ages.

Jonathan graduated from Bates College in 1996 with a Comparative Religion major. He has served as a Student Minister at West Gloucester Trinitarian Church, UCC, and has worked as a hospital chaplain at both Westborough State Mental Hospital, and South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, MA.  Jonathan says that he has a deep love for acting, having participated since his teens in school and community theater, productions at Bates and at the Actor’s Studio in Boston. In addition to his stage acting, Jonathan has sung in various choirs since childhood.  He began his ministry at South Church in August of 2002, and in the last two years he and his wife, Jolie Thomas Drury, have become parents to a beautiful boy named Nathaniel, bought a small house ten minutes away from the church, and are well on their way to building a life around our community.

Jonathan says that his time at South Church in Andover has been instrumental to his pastoral development. Along with refining his practical skills for ministry, like leading worship, preaching, pastoral care, and the administrative ability needed to lead a flourishing youth program, Jonathan believes that his time at South Church has helped him to more fully understand God’s call in his life. At some point during his first few months in Andover, Jonathan realized that the only reason that he had ever pursued his current vocation was that he had had the good fortune to learn from people who shared a different perspective than that of the status quo. People who, like Jesus, were able to look beyond the superficial trappings of our world, and seeing the Truth that exists at the center of creation, loved Jonathan enough to share with him what they had discovered.  “If these people had not nurtured me”, says Jonathan, “I might have lost my sense of wonder long ago. The gift that they gave me was truly awesome, and I realize how lucky I am to be able to pass this gift on to others.”

In closing, Jonathan says, “I consider myself blessed to have been welcomed into a community of faithful people who are doing their best to live their lives guided by the example of Jesus’ love for the world.  I believe that I have a real opportunity to do good work at South Church in Andover, and I am honored that God had called me to serve this community.”
