The following is a list of the committees/boards/offices that are filled by the Nominating Committee. Click here for a list of current board members. Responsible for counting and registering offering plate collections following Sunday morning worship services. Perform an annual audit of the church financial records: examining the books, accounts, vouchers, and other supporting records of the Treasurer, Trustee of the Trust Funds, and all others handling church funds. Cooperates with the ministry in the interpretation, promotion, and supervision of the overall Christian Education program of the church. Determines the philosophy, policy, and curriculum of Christian Education. Works to strengthen the church-home relationship. Recruits, trains, and seeks to inspire teachers and other Christian Education workers. The Board of Deacons together with the ministers shall be concerned with the spiritual life and well being of the church. They advise and assist the ministers in the general oversight of all regular and special services of worship. They are responsible for the use of the sanctuary and for the care and appearance of the Communion table and the chancel area. They provide for and administer the Lord's Supper. The Board of Trustees has general oversight over the temporal affairs of the church, including the care and management of church property, both real and personal, including all church funds and investments (except that which is vested in the Trustees of the Trust Funds). The Board of Women's Ministry is a dynamic group of multigenerational women striving to serve the needs of South Church and the community at large. We meet once a month to discuss ways to financially support deserving organizations and grant empowerment funds for personal needs. Our hands on outreach programs include Meals for New Babies, clothing and personal hygiene collections and volunteer work. Promotes the missionary interests of the church and the consideration of social issues within the local community and the world, seeking to advance the worldwide Kingdom of God. Working with the Director of Youth Ministries, the Board of Youth Ministries provides additional focus and continuity for the Youth programs of the church, seeking to involve the youth in the total life of the church. Church Council Members-at-Large Attend monthly Council meetings and participates in council activities. Recruits greeters for Sunday morning services. Prepares and publishes notices of congregational meetings. Records and publishes meeting minutes. Responsible for records of membership and baptism and for letters of transfer and dismissal. Delegates to the Andover Association of UCC Represent South Church at Association meetings and participate in Association activities. Delegates to the Greater Lawrence Council of Churches Represent South Church at Council meetings and participate in Council activities. Delegates to the UCC Massachusetts State Conference Represent South Church at the annual Conference. Responsible for the ministry of social involvement among the members of the church through various functions and activities. Responsible for organizing the weekly fellowship hour following Sunday morning services. Provides flowers for the regular services of worship. Cooperates with the Board of Deacons in the distribution of the flowers to the sick, hospitalized, aged, bereaved, or shut-ins, or as the donor directs. Responsible for oversight in the use and care of the church kitchen facilities. Responsible for organizing and maintaining library materials. They research the resource needs of the church to ensure the library's continued usefulness to the congregation and staff. Responsible for receiving and acknowledging memorial gifts and recommending to the Board of Trustees appropriate expenditures of all undesignated memorial gift funds. Presides at annual and special meetings of the church and at monthly meetings of the Church Council. Requires membership on an official board within the last three years. Responsible for the ministry of music in cooperation with the Music Director, including supervision of choral activities, encouragement of young people in the knowledge and use of church music (vocal and instrumental), and the stimulation of music appreciation through special musical events for the church and community. Submits nominations for all offices to be filled at the annual meeting. Provides nominations for all vacancies to Church Council. Responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, and/or coordinating all fundraising activities of the church, including the annual canvass and special fund drives. Also educates the church in Christian stewardship. Superintendent of Church School and Assistant Superintendent(s ) of Church School These positions coordinate Church School activities and provide support to Church School staff. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent(s ) shall also be voting members of the Board of Christian Education. Responsible for training, scheduling and coordinating the Usher Leaders Recruit and supervise ushers on a weekly basis as scheduled by the Superintendent of Ushers. |
