Hand
Bell Choir
The
Hand Bell Choir consists of 12 members, 5th grade through adult. We always
have room for additional ringers, and welcome interested youth and adults to participate.
Bell ringing does not require the ability to read music, only a basic
understanding of rhythm. This
choir plays a four-octave set of English handbells, participates in worship about once
a month, and prepares special music for Thanksgiving, Advent and Lent.

Sanctuary Choir
The
Sanctuary Choir welcomes adults and high school youth who love to sing.
Membership presently consists of approximately 25 singers, and we are actively
looking to increase the size of the choir. No formal audition is required
to become part of this wonderful group—just a love of singing. The Sanctuary
Choir provides choral music for Sunday services from September through
mid-June. Each spring the Sanctuary choir presents a major choral work
with full orchestra. Recent presentations include Fauré Requiem, Bach Magnificat, Mozart
Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria, Schubert
Mass in G, Haydn Lord Nelson
Mass and Rutter Gloria. Click here for the Choir

Youth Music
Program
Through the
joy of music, children develop their voices, their motor skills
and their friendships, as they share in the love and worship of
God.
Carol
Choir
The Carol Choir is for
children in Kindergarten through grade 2. During rehearsals
participants will experience singing, moving and playing
instruments. The children will also prepare for their
participation in Sunday worship services. The Carol Choir
will perform approximately 6 times a year.
Trebel
Choir
South Church Treble
Choir is for students in grades 3 – 8. There is no formal
audition. Any student who enjoys singing is welcome. The
Treble Choir concentrates on vocal development, choral sound, reading,
part singing, as well as instrument playing. The choir will work on
challenging repertoire from a variety of styles, periods, and
languages. Treble Choir will participate in Sunday worship
approximately once a month.
Instruments,
Instrumentalists and
Dancers
The Sanctuary
organ is a 3-manual tracker pipe organ built by George Bozeman.
Jr. and Co. A Steinway grand piano also graces the sanctuary. Instrumentalists from the congregation are warmly encouraged to
share their musical gifts in regular services and as part of any special musical works
which take place. We are privileged to have string, wind, and brass players among us, as
well as pianists, organists, and vocal soloists. Percussionists, classical and
contemporary guitar players, and liturgical dancers further enhance the rich array of
musical and artistic offerings at South Church.
PERFORMING ARTS
SOUTH CHURCH MUSICAL
The
Performing Arts Group of South Church puts on a fully staged musical yearly.
Past performances have included The wizard of Oz, Children of Eden, Honk, The Music Man
and
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat among others. All who wish
to participate are included, with the requirement of regular attendance at
rehearsals. Casts include all ages and all musical abilities. Children 10
and under are required to have a parent on stage with them. This major
project requires actors, singers, dancers, musicians, carpenters, sewers,
painters, and lots of organizational people—as many as 150 altogether.
All participants must attend auditions to fill out paperwork so that assignments
to choruses and dance groups are based upon numbers, age, size, etc.
Individual tryouts are held for featured parts and dance groups The show is not
yet decided and will be announced in late fall. Watch the 5 minutes from
south Church for information. Rehearsals begin in early January and the
musical will be performed on March 7th, 8th and 9th, 2008. For more information call Director Linda Zimmerman at
978-470-1580.
