& Roses is a local hands-on hospitality mission to respond to the
basic needs of the hungry in the city of Lawrence. Currently, more than
150 guests are served dinner five nights per week. South Church volunteers
shop, cook and serve on the fourth Thursday and third Saturday of each
month.

USFCH
provides financial, medical, and religious support and assistance to the
children of Haiti primarily through the Foundation Pour Les Enfants
d’Haiti (FEH). FEH is a Christian organization that supports many
projects, including an orphanage, elementary school, nursery, home for
handicapped children, and hospital in Port au Prince.

Communities Together is a collaborative effort of local
Protestant and Catholic churches. Its goal is to create a more unified and
loving community through its various cooperative initiatives, such as
Chaplains for Hospitals and Nursing homes, outreach programs, and the
annual summer
Vacation Bible School. Communities
Together also coordinates an after-school program at Hancock Courts in
Lawrence, which serves children who live in one of the poorest housing
projects in the state.

Haiti Christian Development Fund (HCDF) has been actively working in the
rural Haitian community of Fond-des-Blancs since 1982. Among other things,
its work has included developing water systems, a reforestation project, a
credit union and an elementary school.

earth. Heiffer has helped millions of people in 128 countries to "pass on
the gift" by providing families with a source of food rather than short

of hope, dignity and self reliance is created that reaches around the

House serves the poor (about 8000 per month) of greater Lawrence through its many programs:

Neighbors in Need (NIN) serves the Greater Lawrence area by providing
food, formula, diapers, clothing and household items free of charge to
those who request them. NIN is currently serving over 400 families each
week at eight pantries in addition to two mobile pantry programs
delivering groceries to 26 teen mothers and 20 disabled residents.
In 2007, families served increased by 30%.

Founded
by Massachusetts resident George Leger in 1994, Only a Child provides
outreach, support education and self sufficiency skills to homeless
youth in Guatemala City. It is a multi-faceted program offering
shelter and healthcare, as well as vocational training and educational
opportunites, to give the youth every possible chance to one day lead
productive lives.

Our
Church’s Wider Mission is the parent organization of all UCC missions.
It provides funds for approximately 150 separate missions and ministries
in 88 countries.
It
includes two components: Basic Support for the funding of core programs;
and Special Support, for specific mission opportunities through the four
UCC special mission offerings which fund certain development projects
and responds to natural disasters.
Rural Missions
Rural Missions on John’s Island, SC
serves low income migrant and resident families living on the Sea
Islands. The program provides support in education, advocacy, and
outreach. The South Church Youth Group travels to John’s Island in the
spring each year to assist families in crisis with repair and rebuilding
of their homes.
Samaritans of Merrimack Valley
The Samaritans’ purpose, founded in
1953, is to provide confidential emotional support to any person, who is
suicidal or despairing; and to increase public awareness of issues
around suicide and depression.

World Vision is dedicated to helping
children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by
tackling the causes of poverty. Approximately half of their programs
are funded through child sponsorship which supports community programs
benefiting children and their families. World Vision also provides
emergency relief to victims of disasters.

Hope Initiative is a campaign in Africa to address the needs of children,

Day of Service
South Church
organizes this church-wide intergenerational service project.
Parishioners partner with local missions and agencies to perform service
projects throughout the greater church community on a single designated
day.
Impact and Emergency Funds
Our church responds generously to
special collections directed towards specific one-time mission needs
or requests.
Year-Round
Projects
Throughout the year, the BWS sponsors
many projects, often in concert with other church groups and agencies.
Projects include special offerings, serving at soup kitchens, holiday
food collections and distribution, and Christmas “gifts that matter.”
Youth
and Adult Mission Trips
The church
helps to sponsor mission trips for South Church youth and, more
recently, adults. Past mission trip destinations have included John’s
Island, South Carolina, Appalachia, and rural Vermont. |
